I’m Having Connection Issues
The cause of this problem can be a lot of things. For starters, it could be a validation error. If your Control Box lights up blue, and the app doesn’t do anything, that’s probably it. A validation error occurs when something interrupts the Control Box firmware update process (most probably a power outage). And the only way to solve this particular problem is to contact us.
If the Control Box seems to be unresponsive after a power outage, it’s probably an IP mismatch. It could also happen if you unplug your Internet router and plug it back in. To solve this, press the reset button on the Control Box and go through the setup process again.
If you encounter unreliable and spotty signal between the Control Box and your app, it’s probably due to a bad WiFi connection. Try moving the Control Box closer to your Internet router and see if that helps. If it does, you’ll probably want to invest in a stronger WiFi antenna or a wireless access point somewhere closer to the Control Box.
If the Control Box can in no way connect to your local WiFi network, you can use the AP mode. AP mode works by using a separate WiFi network for controlling your lights, instead of it being a part of your home network. To use the access point mode, you should reset the Control Box. Then, connect to the lights’ WiFi network on your smartphone. Make sure to type 1.1.1.1 as the IP address in your lights app, and you’re done! The only downside is you have to be connected to the lights’ network in order to use the app.
The App is Frozen
Supposing everything is alright with your smartphone, the first step you should try is killing the app:
- If you have an iPhone 8 or older, you do this by double clicking on the home button and swiping the app up.
- For newer iPhones, you swipe up and hold to get to the multitasking tab, and then swipe the app away.
- For Android phones, press the multitasking button and swipe the app away. Make sure you’re using the latest version of the app.
If you couldn’t solve the problem this way, you could always try uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it. That should do the trick. Make sure your Android or iOS version is identical or higher than the version the app is supporting.
If the problem persists, try using some other phone just to verify everything else is working normally. If you encounter no problems, you should look into hard resetting your phone or taking it to the repair shop, just to make sure everything is alright.
